Does it have cheesy sunset graphics on the outside, too? Or a bumper sticker that says “If this van’s a-rockin, don’t come a-knockin!”? It even had a mirror ball, which always means it’s Business Time. “We gotta bring the holo-bedroom to the fight!” I’m imagining it’s in a 70’s conversion van. Frankly, I find the whole concept that these girls go out and fight, and when they’re feeling like they don’t have enough energy left, they pop into the love hotel room and go a round or two with Kizuna to be kinda hilarious.
The girls get powered up through, er, getting powered up by Kizuna, and I don’t know if it’s cynical or just knowing the audience that they’ve even got a holodeck-style love hotel room they can use. Except for the giveaway that we’re going to get for the end with the ‘secret weapon’ (riiiiiiiiight). It doesn’t help that it telegraphs a How We Got Here structure with the cold open, although that is the show’s chance to show off the thing that will at least draw some people to the show: pretty much straight up sex. Masou Gakuen HxH, which makes it really confusing because you can’t just talk about it as “HxH” since that’s taken by a show I’ll never watch, isn’t exactly breaking new ground here in the execution of a show like this. And by sexy time I mean just touching here and there nothing past that because if the MC actually had sex with any of the girls they would become way too powerful and blow up the world! Heavy Petting

In the past I have enjoyed characters like Maria from Shinmai Maou no Testament, Emile from Hundred, Kirin from Gakusen Toshi Asterisk, Philphie from Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut and Meifon from Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid.Īs for Masou Gakuen HxH I don’t really have a favorite girl quite yet because we need to see how the other girls act besides Little-Miss-Tsundere-Angry-Pants-Aine Chidorigafuchi who wasn’t full on Tsun so she wasn’t terrible however I think Yurishia Farandole and Hayuru Himekawa might end up being a bit more fun! Then again it was funny to see how aggressive Aine was in the mini future preview at the start of this episode, but I did see the token LOLi Sylvia Silkcut who looks like she belongs in a series like Annie Happy? Anyway she was shown in the OP and is with the other three girls? So I assume Kizuna will get sexy time with her at some point in the Super-Cool- holodeck-sex- danger room. Giant futuristic city? Check! High powered weapons? Check! Giant monsters to blow up? Check! Tight flight suit wearing girls? Double check! Yes Masou Gakuen HxH has a lot of the usual things we’ve come to expect for these kinds of mindless fanservice series, but I don’t think fans of this particular genre really care if the creators decide to borrow the same elements from other ecchi anime and come on lets be real does anyone actually watch these ecchi action series for deep stories? Personally for any ecchi to sell me completely on their silly series they need to have fun or unique characters. So how does this season’s example of the extreme end of this spectrum stack up?
Pretty much every season has something new that’s trying to mix boobs, butts, moans, leers, groping, smashing, yellling, and a lot of pretty girls, but it’s not as easy as just putting all those things together.
